Jonathan Winch spent 31 years in education as a maths teacher, principal, and executive principal in Christian ethos schools. ET caught up with him to find out more about his experiences.
Please tell us about your upbringing.
Istanbul is a city spanning two continents, and a history as diverse: once the centre of Eastern Christendom, it came early under Ottoman rule before Kemal ‘Atatürk’ introduced a Latin alphabet and opened Turkey to Western influence.
There I was born, and there I grew up, a missionary kid with Turkish, Armenian, and American friends, attending a German school and a Greek church!
If I felt at times something of a ‘stranger and exile’, I was glad that my parents were ambassadors of Jesus Christ. Looking back it was a privileged upbringing; we were rich in everything but money.
