Archbishop of York takes charge and immediately hints at gay celebrations

The Archbishop of York has taken temporary charge of the Church of England and has written an open letter in which he says the church will consider bespoke services to welcome gay couples later this year.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, announced his resignation last November, but his resignation didn’t come into full effect until 6 January. Cottrell has taken charge of the Church until the autumn when a new Archbishop of Canterbury will be selected.

In his letter to everyone within the Church of England, Cottrell said, ‘I am convinced we are united in our desire to ensure that all our churches are places of welcome for everyone regardless of difference, but we also live with profound disagreement about how that welcome should be expressed towards same sex-couples.
