Canada: Campaigners who pushed for assisted suicide now admit law is ‘being abused’

A human rights activist group in Canada that spearheaded the call for assisted suicide laws is now calling for stronger safeguards to protect vulnerable people.

The British Columbia Civil Liberties Association (BCCLA) was among those who pushed for the Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) legislation.

But now the group has admitted there is evidence that people are being offered assisted suicide even though they do not legally qualify, and some disabled people are facing a ‘coercive dynamic’.
