Almost half of the population of England and Wales identify as ‘Christian’, according to latest figures from the 2021 census.

When asked about their faith, 46.2 per cent describe themselves as Christian, which remains the most common response to the faith question.

That’s a fall from 59.3 per cent in the previous census held ten years earlier, and it is the first time fewer than half the population have identified as ‘Christian’.
