Church order matters. The organisation of our churches is important. How your church handles the admission of new members, requests for baptism, admission to (and exclusion from) the Lord’s Supper, the appointment of church officers, and similar matters is vital to the life and growth of the church.
Is that putting it too high? Notice what Luke says in Acts, following his account of the appointment of the seven men to take care of the daily distribution of food to needy widows in the church in Jerusalem (Acts 6). He recounts how the seven were brought to the apostles, prayed for, and had hands laid on them. Then he says, ‘And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith’ (Acts 6:7).
