Church weddings
More couples are considering a church wedding, the Church of England has found. The ‘Your Church Wedding’ web site reported a nearly 50 per cent increase in visits during 2011.
This coincided with an increase in couples approaching the Church of England stand at wedding shows with questions about marrying in church.
The web site claimed interest in church weddings has grown over the past four years, after a change in the law in 2008 made it easier to get married in a church.
Rosie Harper, one of the church weddings team, noted, ‘Church of England weddings increased by 4 per cent in 2010’. When asked about couples wanting to marry in church, she said, ‘We’d love to be part of their big day, so we’d encourage every-one to come and talk to us’.
A couple featured on the Your Church Wedding video had been unsure as to whether they would be allowed to marry in church. They said, ‘We were delighted to find that it wasn’t going to be a problem, and that our local vicar was very happy, in fact insisted on marrying us’.
