Dr Geoffrey Grogan (1925–2011)    

Dr Grogan was born on 4 May 1925 and taught the Bible and Christian theology for most of his working life.
   According to a brief biography on his website, http://geoffreygrogan.wordpress.com, Dr Grogan studied theology at Glasgow’s Bible Training Institute, which later became the Glasgow Bible College. He also trained at the then London Bible College, later renamed the London School of Theology.
   Called, with affection, the ‘gentle giant’ by his pupils, Dr Grogan went on to teach full time at these two colleges, from 1951 to 1965 and then (as principal) from 1969 to 1990 in Glasgow, and from 1965 to 1969 in London.
   Since retirement, he taught as a visiting lecturer at the International Christian College, Glasgow, the Scottish Baptist College and several overseas locations. He served on four missionary councils, on the Strathclyde region education committee and the management committee of the Cambridge diploma of religious studies examination.
   Rev. Dr Geoffrey Grogan was intending to launch an online Bible study course called ‘Getting more deeply into your Bible’ on 1 October, but he suddenly went to be with the Lord, on 31 August, after being admitted to hospital with severe abdominal pains. It transpired that he had suffered an aortic aneurysm.
   It was his wish to set up the free online course this year, because, as he wrote on his blog, ‘There is a deep and increasing concern I have had for many years that most Christians now do very little Bible study.
   ‘They may read a few verses during their devotions; if so this is good; but they hardly, if ever, read a Bible book through, let alone study it in detail’.
   Dr Grogan leaves his wife Eva, three grown-up children and three grandchildren. The course is to be continued by his son John.
