‘Masculinity isn’t toxic – sin is toxic.’ So said former footballer and current evangelical minister Gavin Peacock in a recent discussion on the BBC.
Gavin was one of three guests on Radio 4’s ‘Beyond Belief’ religious affairs programme. The episode was called ‘Menfluencers’ and considered the widespread impact of figures including Jordan Peterson and Andrew Tate upon current views of masculinity.
Guests also included feminist writer Harriet Hall and Will Moore, author of a recent book critiquing traditional views of masculinity. Gavin himself is associate pastor of Calvary Grace Church in Calgary.
The three panellists acknowledged the current ‘crisis of masculinity’ and the appeal of people like Jordan Peterson, particularly among young men.
