Ministers have launched a UK consultation on parental internet controls to help protect children from accessing harmful websites.
   Brought by Tim Loughton, minister for children and families, and Lynne Featherstone, minister for equalities and criminal information — joint chairmen of the Council for Child Internet Safety — the discussion paper seeks the views of the public.
   The discussion paper, which is open for responses until 6 September, is asking for people’s opinions and advice on parental controls, and whether automatic online blocks should be introduced to protect children from adult and harmful websites.
   It outlines three broad options for the best approach to keeping children safe (visit www.education.gov.uk/consultations and choose Parental Internet Controls Consultation).
