Medicine war
The NHS has come under criticism for spending nearly £25m a year on supplies of Cipralex, an expensive anti-depressant drug.
However, an investigation commissioned by The Independent and carried out by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, discovered the difference in content and effectiveness to the older anti-depressant drug Cipramil was negligible.
The investigation found that Cipramil was at least £12 cheaper than Cipralex and that there was little evidence of a clear clinical advantage to buying the newer patent drug.
