Global Care, a UK-based charity, says that Burma’s economic crisis and recent military clampdown are making it almost impossible for ordinary people to survive. Global Care supports a small orphanage, a Bible school for trainee pastors, and a day centre with nursery for very poor pre-school children in Rangoon.
The day centre and Bible school have suspended operations temporarily while staff at the orphanage are struggling to feed children in their care.
‘We were relieved to find all our staff, students and children are still alive and well but they are living in very difficult and precarious circumstances’, said a charity spokesman. ‘The price of rice and other commodities has rocketed’.
