Egyptian media protest

Over a dozen newspapers in Egypt refused to publish their normal editions recently as a protest against government restriction of press freedoms. The press protest follows a number of arrests in recent months of journalists and bloggers, culminating with the security court trial of Ibrahim Issa, a well-known critic of the government. Issa published articles on the alleged ill health and possible death of President Mubarak.
Arab Vision, a Christian media organisation with a number of personnel and production centres in the Arab World, voiced support for the protesters and called for greater press freedom in the region. During recent months some of its own TV producers have faced harassment and had programmes censored.
