Handworth

Emmanuel Church in Handsworth, an inner-city district of Birmingham, is committed to reaching its community, which includes many Sikhs from the Punjab.

At the 2001 census the ethnic population made up 82 per cent of nearby Lozells and East Handsworth, compared with 29.6 per cent for the whole of Birmingham. In recent years, there has been an influx of other nationalities, including Kurds, Somalis, Afghans, Polish migrant workers, Iranians and Iraqis. Emmanuel Church has a marvellous opportunity to fulfil the Great Commission on its doorstep.
