Hostage released
Samaritan’s Purse (SP) relief worker Flavia Wagner was released on 30 August after being held hostage for 105 days by kidnappers in the Darfur region of Sudan.
‘We thank God that Flavia is safe and free,’ said Franklin Graham, president of SP. ‘We appreciate the help of the government of Sudan and the United States government. People around the world have been praying for her safety and her release. Today, those prayers have been answered’.
Wagner, 35, was among three SP workers kidnapped on 18 May when their two-vehicle convoy was stopped by 8 armed men, 15 miles southwest of Nyala, the provincial capital of South Darfur. The other two workers – both Sudanese men – were released a week later.
Wagner remained in captivity but was allowed to contact her family and SP staff on several occasions.
SP, which provides immediate response to the physical and spiritual needs of individuals in crisis situations, has 548 national and expat staff in Sudan and works in more than 100 countries around the world.
