Vatican vs Wikileaks
The Wikileaks scandal has revealed that the Vatican may have put a ban on investigations into child abuse allegations. Controversial founder Julian Assange’s web site published thousands of diplomatic cables at the end of 2010, some of which seem to reveal that the current pope, Benedict, refused to allow Vatican officials to testify in such cases.
The officials had been called in, as a result of a wide-ranging investigation by an Irish commission into alleged child sex abuse by priests, theGuardian revealed. The Murphy Commission of Inquiry into sexual and physical abuse ‘offended many in the Vatican’, according to a cable dated 26 February 2010.
