Walking the talk
Smithton Culloden Free Church, Inverness, hosted a celebratory dinner for Christians and charity fund raisers who took part in a sponsored walk from Glasgow to Inverness in August.
Starting at Drumpeller Country Park in Coatbridge, Glasgow, and ending in Inverness five days later, the walk was to raise money for, and awareness of, one million people who live with learning disabilities in the UK.
Christian charity Prospects, which is working together with another Christian organisation called Causeway, launched its series of sponsored walks covering 1,000 miles in London in March.
Since then, Tony Phelps-Jones, director of mission and ministry for Causeway, has been joined in his 20-mile-a-day marathon by people whom the charity supports, their friends and family, and others.
Tony said: ‘I was delighted to be on this walk from Glasgow to Inverness, as we have had Prospects/Causeway groups in Scotland for many years. In some ways, they have been pioneers in helping other churches in the area consider how they can integrate people with learning disabilities fully into their churches and communities’.
The walk has raised more than £40,000 for the charity.
