Reformation Christianity
A conference for men called ‘Reformation Christianity for today’ was held at Bawtry Hall conference centre, near Doncaster, from 11-12 November. This is the fourth time it has been held. It was previously called ‘A defence of Calvinism’.
The two main speakers were Dr Kevin Bidwell (Sheffield Presbyterian) and Brian Norton (Durham Presbyterian). People came from different parts of the UK, as well as two friends from Germany, to consider how Reformation theology affects our whole lives, including our understanding of the church, worship and how we interpret Scripture.
Important topics covered included Reformed worship, the Lord’s Supper and a Greek exegesis of Romans 3:21-26. Time was also given after each session for lively discussion.
Other addresses had the following titles: ‘The three Rs of biblical and puritan evangelism’ and ‘Preaching: the analysis of a Samuel Davies sermon (Romans 9:22-23)’. We also had a look at Psalm 100, with some insights from the Hebrew text.
And, of course, we would not forget to mention the four-a-side football match on the Saturday afternoon. So, what next? The conference will be held again at Bawtry Hall on 9-10 November 2012 (more details from andrewmichaelgraham@googlemail.com). It is open to all men, not just pastors, who are part of a local church.
