Thousands of Pakistani Christian families who were left stranded in Thailand after escaping persecution have been given a glimmer of hope by The British Asian Christian Association (BACA).
The UK-based organisation was able to provide financial assistance to 10 Christian families who are seeking asylum in Thailand after having fled severe religious persecution in Pakistan.
The families, among thousands who fled the Islamist country of Pakistan, ended up in Thailand, but found themselves in a precarious position. Thailand, which has strict immigration laws, does not recognise asylum seekers.
There are no formal systems of support or recognition for refugees, meaning people are left with no financial resources, medical assistance, education, or employment opportunities to support themselves.
In October, fundraising by BACA enabled a donation of 1000 baht (£25) for each of 10 families, which will help covering rent, purchasing groceries, or buying essentials like medicine and milk.
