Most people are agreed that we ought to be more thankful for the good things we enjoy. Even secular psychologists maintain that an attitude of gratitude is good for our health.

Paul Mallard begins his book by contrasting two people he came across in the same year, one grateful, the other bitter. He asserts that the attitude of the first character was more than just a positive mindset. ‘Gratitude is a supernatural grace implanted in the hearts of God’s children. We cannot create it, but we can sustain it’ (p.55).
