In previous articles we have asked the question, what is a disciple of Jesus? Foundationally, a disciple is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. He or she will be a baptised believer who belongs to a local church and shares in its life, worship, and witness.
In Romans 11:33-36, and in 12:1-2, Paul highlights two further identifying marks of an authentic disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ.
First, authentic disciples are filled with wonder, love, and praise to God for his Son Jesus Christ (read 11:33-36). The gospel of God comes not only to restore us to God’s fellowship, it comes to capture the affections of our heart. The faith which unites you to Jesus the Saviour brings you into a new world.
It brings you God’s forgiveness; it rescues you from hell and gives you an assured entitlement to heaven; it brings you out of Satan’s kingdom and into God’s kingdom; it makes children of the devil into children of the living God. How could all this be yours and your hearts not be ‘lost in wonder, love, and praise’?
