Originally published in 1988, this reprint is a perfect book to read at Easter. Val Grieve was a lawyer, and in this he briefly talks through the evidence for Jesus’ death and resurrection and the impact this truth has. It explains the Gospel accounts and refers to records and other historical texts written by contemporaries of Jesus, including unbelievers.
The book was designed to introduce sceptics to the faith, as demands for proof are often made by those antagonistic to the gospel. Nonetheless, I still found it a fascinating read as a Christian.
Grieve acknowledges that, while Christianity does not need a lawyer’s defence because it is built on faith and not mere evidence, it was time someone spoke up for it in this way. Examining the direct and circumstantial evidence of the resurrection is well suited to a sceptical non-Christian who seeks empirical data. It provides an interesting historical background for the Christian reader too. Strongly recommended! Pass it on to your non-Christian friends as well.
